The state wants to take over running the bus stations
Nitzba, the company that owns our station and many others, has been in a long dispute with the state. Now the Public Transport Authority wants to move the management of its stations to the government company Netivei Ayalon. Nitzba would still own them.
- What Nitzba has. 17 central bus stations and 9 bus parking and garage sites. Together that’s about 300 dunams, with room for about 2,300 buses (about 22% of the country’s fleet). Bus companies pay it about NIS 160 million a year.
- The state’s side. The state says Nitzba uses its monopoly, charges above-market rent, lets the stations fall apart, and has been suing the state since 2021.
- Nitzba’s side. Nitzba says the state doesn’t pay enough to run the stations, the management agreements are decades old, and it has kept the stations working at a loss.
- When. The first stations to move are Be’er Sheva, Netanya, Afula, Tzfat, Nahariya and Akko, in early 2027. The rest should follow by 2028. All this still depends on the mediation between the sides and on budget approval.
- And Tel Aviv? Our station isn’t in the first group. In Tel Aviv, Nitzba is demanding about NIS 100 million from the state as a refund of municipal property tax.
